John,

I personally think there is little doubt that the economy has been growing. I base that on my discussions with people I know who are still working in positions that give them a true window into what is going on. Also, as CC has said - you can see it in the restaurants and the local mall which has filled most of its empty stores.

I think it should be of no surprise that with over $4t in deficit spending in three years and coming off a severe low that we are growing. The issue to me is the level of steroids in terms of spending that has been required to reach this feeble state.

Somewhere the music will end - but bond market says that time is somewhere in the future. Whatever restructuring we are going to do needs to be done sooner rather than later while we still have financial flexibility to do it. Everyone talks about the right things - I think for mostly smoke screen reasons - and does nothing. In fact it is getting worse as we have all now agreed to defund SS. Absolutely amazing.
