thanks ed..., er, ray<G>.

i'm not TAs biggest fan, but i do know a lot of people who make decisions based on it, and it does work from time to time. i just will never forget during last summer when MU was in the high 50s and murphy was on CNBC saying it was heading for 80<G>. i take a dim view of analysis that takes into account only TA.

good luck to all,
trey

[New Horizons]

Since everyone will be in cash soon (unless we get a stock bid), perhaps everyone could list their 2-3 favorite plays going forward. Since we are like minded, we could have a virtual portfolio for people to consider. The reasoning behind someone's plug, along with the inherent risks of the stock and a good entry price could be given as well. It should have a 1-3 year time horizon with strong growth potential, and not merely a short term undervalued company. Although bandwidth could be a focal point, it wouldn't have to be limited to this.

Alternatively, we could come up with each category under bandwidth, and name the best 2-3 choices in each. For instance, the categories could include subjects like: cable, satellite, fiber, copper, gigabit ethernet, videoconferencing, bandwidth content, chipmakers, and networkers to start with.

Some companies that were hyped previously, like ANCR and NUKO, are down. Which of these types of depressed companies are the next Amati?

Regards,

Richard

Teleworkers seek faster connections

From ComputerWorld...

Matt Hamblen
(Online News Story, 11/21/97)

NEW YORK -- Those who telecommute or work remotely are thirsting for faster modem connections to the office and the Internet. The problem is finding a company to provide the service.

"The phone companies need to hurry up to provide ADSL," said analyst Shizue Shimbo Davis at Walsh-Lowe and Associates, Inc., a telecommunications consultancy in Hoboken, N.J., in a speech to network managers at the Communications Managers Association fall meeting here recently.

Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) technology is one of several types of DSL technologies that offer faster bandwidth over a network; allow use of existing twisted-pair copper telephone lines for transmission; and don't require repeater devices to enhance performance. ADSL has been in development since 1993 but is only now beginning to be offered commercially on the West Coast by Pacific Bell in San Francisco. GTE Communications Corp. also announced deployment to residential users in Southern California beginning this week.
