Sankar, <<Do you know of a secret (now
open secret) bunker in Culpepper, VA and an emergency rescue mission to take the President, VP, Fed
Chairman and some other critical people to the bunker to protect all the financial data maintained in a duplicate
computer system, as soon as a nuclear war starts?>>

For that occasion, I do have a little bit of gold - just in case anybody might still want it.-g-

Sankar

I think the greater worry (as you suggested earlier), and most likely correct, is that Yamaichi is not atypical in its practices and, thus, many brokerages are in the same boat with respect to how they have handled their finances as well as to the accuracy (ie inaccuracy) of their reports about same. It also sounds like a lot of the rise in the Tokyo market the past few days was due Yamaichi and other financial institutions buying back their own shares at a furious rate trying to re-instill confidence.

A buddy of Abelson, BTW, who was (is?) short Yamaichi stock, claims they were buying own stock last week, driving it up. At least that's what he said in Barron's.

Sankar: on Friday news there was at least two other large Japanese financial institutions that announced they will be disclosing a large amount of bad debt. It's larger than $190B!!!
