Yes, I agreed. The corruptions you talked about happen everywhere in
the East Asian countries, not just limitted to China, and it really has nothing to do with whether you are communism or democracy. It is a matter of culture and education. Just look at those currency crisis happed in the S.E. Asian counries, Japan ad Korea of recent, those crisis is really
a result of corruption in their respective banking system. Those bankers just just make loans to their friends , relatives, business partners who do not have the financial capability to pay off the loans
,then dead loans, and crisis of the banks, then the crisis of the currency, the crisis of the anking systems, all pop out !!!!

Wait a minute Dwight - In America I was under the impression that our corruption was simply totally legal, why our top elected officials spend much of their time on the phone, they simply 'dial for dollars'!!

The imprisonment of dissidents in dehumanizing brutal conditions, the assassination of political prisoners for the purpose of organ harvesting, the kafkaesque processing of christians (not that i espouse religion) by forcing them to register and then refusing to register them -- all these practices give me little reason to believe in the notion of a free chinese state. as others on this thread have stated, however, capitalism is not necessarily synonymous with democracy. communism is often the destination of underdeveloped and poor countries whereas fascism can be the totalatarian bugaboo of highly industrialized nations.
