We are in the lull before the storm. If you have something to say about the ME please share it with us.

All ME all the time would be pretty boring and depressing for me.

And the subject of the socializing of medicine is not insignificant.

our engagement in rat hole Afghanistan is a no-win affair

IMO victory in Iraq was definable. Removing the SH regime, establishing a relatively stable and accountable government which would be not too anti-American and more or less against Islamist terrorists - that would be acceptable. In general terms, this is what we have in that country presently.

Otoh, it's hard to win in a situation where "winning" can not be defined. What would constitute victory in Afghanistan? I was unable to figure that out. Never saw anyone offer any definition. Therefore, yes, the conflict is unwinnable - by definition, or rather due to an absence thereof. No matter what we do, and regardless how long we try, they'll probably revert to their stone age ways as soon as we walk out.
