3/16/12 Contest Update
Straining my menagerie of anthropomorphic Wall Street’s metaphors, I can verify that for most of the week the Bulls had the Bears clutched by the throat. However, the Bears did manage to escape by week’s end, perhaps inspired by the Goldman Sachs VP who miraculously slipped loose from the clutching tentacles of the Vampire Squid.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 21.59% YTD (vs. up 20.53% YTD a week ago). In comparison, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 15.72% YTD (vs. up 14.35% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 17.28% YTD (vs. up 14.71% YTD a week ago).
DON’s’s portfolio, up 46.89% YTD had another stellar week and remained our leader. BIOJIM’s portfolio, up 40.21% YTD, held on to to the No. 2 slot and SCARAM’s portfolio, up 32.76% YTD, moved into third place.
At Friday's close, all 38 Contest portfolios remained in the black, with 28 of the 38 portfolios beating the NBI.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week.
(Foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in the weekly and YTD Top 5 & Bottom 5 tables, when posted.)
Portfolio adjustments: Portfolio performance now reflects reallocation of proceeds from Amgen buyout of MITI at $11. As indicated in last week’s Contest update, I did the reallocation based on 3/9 closing prices.
Have a safe & green St. Patty’s Day weekend biotechies!
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
