But it's evident that the rest of the country is not doing so great. This is the most bifurcated "recovery" I've seen in my lifetime. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer

Yet the GOP continues to 'brainwash' us into believing Obama is a socialist wealth redistributor? Or that the Dems really have the answer to help the poor get out of the cycle of poverty?

I live in a fairly conservative area on the East Coast.

I am surprised. Given the way you are posting, I thought you were coming from a much more conservative area. I still am perplexed by your need to be so circumspect about where you live.

I consider my neighborhood to be upper middle class. Most of my neighbors are professionals earning decent money and almost all have been fully employed throughout the entirety of the last 4 years. Let me put it this way. We are the ones benefiting most from Bernanke's largess. Unlike most Americans who are watching their wages stagnate or decline, while prices increase, my neighborhood is watching our wages and portfolios increase substantially.

That's nothing new. Its been mostly that way for the past 100 years. There have been some exceptions along the way...........under Clinton, the prosperity finally reached down to the lowest classes for a couple of years........but mostly the lower middle class and poor do not benefit from economic expansions. Why do you think we have had riots in the past?

It's a guilt laden era for most of us, which we talk about over a beer on weekends. Our kids are in college and we're doing great. But it's evident that the rest of the country is not doing so great. This is the most bifurcated "recovery" I've seen in my lifetime.

Hardly. It was much more bifurcated under Bush. However, under Bush, most Rs were not paying attention and when it was brought to their attention, they denied it.

The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.

Yes, that's been true at least since the 1980s if not earlier. I learned about that in grad school. We have been fed a bunch of BS...........mostly coming from the GOP.............that if you work hard, you can pull yourself up by the bootstraps and go from rags to great riches in a life time. That is mostly not true.

Yes, it's nice for them that the government has cast a wide safety net, but all of us know that's not a long term solution. Jobs and sustainable long term growth is what's needed, not a short term sugar high.

And Obama is the man to make it happen. He understand better than you how important good jobs are.
