"What If Oil and Natural Gas Are Renewable Resources? By Greg Lewis"

=====

Not ABIOTIC OIL again ??!!

Let's assume for a moment that this theory is correct .. ie the planet is constantly
producing extractable hydrocarbons from a non biologic source ..

We extract/produce/consume approximately 85 million barrels per day or
31 BILLION barrels per year ..

There can be no natural or unnatural planetary process that produces new hydrocarbons
at anywhere near the rate that humans extract/produce/consume this resource ..

If such a process did in fact exist; then we would be knee deep in the stuff ..
Hydrocarbons would be ubiquitous .. Do the MATH !!

=====

Triff ..

microscopic organisms that thrive in the intense pressure and heat miles below us interact with and alter it

There exist genetically modified e. Coli organisms which consume carbohydrates and excrete a substance which is indistinguishable from gasoline. If scientists were able to develop such organisms, I see no reason why similar ones could not exist in nature. The same relates to natural gas. Some day, not in the very distant future, we will be feeding our dinner leftovers to a bunch of bacteria living in a special apparatus in our garages - and in return receive a gallon or two of gasoline for the morning's ride to work.
