< we'll test the low forties by Dec. 3, 50 to 60 thru Feb.1, 30 at best by May 1>

Why the big bounce after the new year? If people are waiting to put off the gains, and you are right about low forties, seems to me people would continue to bail.

Re: competition
What do you think of the psychological impact on all the folks who shop at Border's/ Waldens/ Brentano's will have on Border's stock once they see the online site (given that it's a decent site, and better than BKS) God knows they've had enough models to look at!. Border's has a huge following in the malls and superstores, their fundamentals and stock have been strong.. I think they will get a boost from store clients itching to invest. BKS may have been benefited from store traffice clients, but I'll bet Borders gets the bigger boost. It's like politics and a dark horse. As much as I believed in Amazon and wanted to be part of it, it went off the sheets for us fundamentalists. So I may go ahead and put my money with Borders and I'll bet a lot of other folks do too.

candle stick, the problem with amazon is that one cannot rationally estimate when it will disintegrate! a lot of short sellers must have gone belly up on this one.

anybody who has visited a b&n bookstore in northern new jersey has to come away impressed. borders has come a long way. but there is only so much one can offer to clients. discounts of 20%, 30%, 40% is a game that can be played by any savy entrant. there are three players out there now - amazon, b&n, and books.com.

until things settle down here, it is probably best to watch. the pe of 36.43 for b&n is not out of sight, but it is a bit pricey for such a thin margin, and high book/price ratio (over 4).

thanks for the information.

CS,

You might be on to something with this rumor. Buying power appears to have completly went away today (even after accounting for the Asia thing) and the stock is looking pretty sick.

Hopefully when this pig collapses it will drag YHOO with it!
