I hope it never comes to that. A related aside: I was listening to Dave Ramsey's radio show the other day. He is a personal finance guru who advises people with humongous problems on the air, and also produces "Financial Peace University." His motto is "The paid-off home mortgage replaces the BMW as the status symbol of choice." I really respect Ramsey's advice and listen to him often. He knows what he is talking about because he learned by first doing all the wrong things and then digging himself out of the hole. Also, he's a Christian. He doesn't make a big deal out of it, but he doesn't hide it either. Anyway, a caller was asking him about whether she should buy gold coins or bars in case things go really gunnysack. Ramsey said (paraphrased): "If things go gunnysack, you'll need guns and food, not gold bars." I couldn't believe I was hearing that on a financial advice show. But I really, really hope it doesn't come to that.
