Shame accepted, but it still begs the question of what you did read. People with bigoted opinions will have written anything they like, covering a few incidents and malfeasant bandits rather than the overall context. A bit like I like to mention Lt Calley in Vietnam and now we have the equivalent in Afghanistan. They don't really represent "what the USA did in conquering Afghanistan".

Do you mean the r word? <Kind of like better to be in the British pot than the tribal fire ... More than little condescending... Some folks might want to toss out a stronger word :O) > Any sensible person knows that it's better to be colonized by some people than others. It's also better to be ruled by some politicians than others. That's why we have elections and there is a lot of arguing about it. To go to an extreme example, what do you think the Jews of Austria thought of being annexed by Germany? For what reason do you think that Albert Einstein made a break for it to the USA? How do you think he would have liked the accommodation at Auschwitz compared with Princeton? My grandson's relatives in Nanking no doubt would prefer, like his other grandfather, to have been ruled by Anglo values than that of the Japanese conquerors, or even their compatriots. His other grandfather preferred to escape from his own unlovely country ruled by Mao's Maelstrom to a country ruled by me and our English ways. It seems that freedom and the still extant Virtuous Victorian Values of NZ were worth swimming for. Hordes of people prefer the Anglo pot than the tribal fires of Hell from which they flee. In fact, it's not a pot. They are in the tribal cooking pot and escape to freedom if they can.

We might even enquire about your own ancestry and how it happened that Anglo Canada was more attractive than from where your ancestors escaped.

Keep in mind that the VVV era was not exactly a time of Libertarian ideals, though it was trending in that direction from the medievil ways which did not totally vanish.
