my point was not about windows being able to run java better than solaris. it was the performance of windows NT vs. Solaris.

i have no idea whether or not SUNW optimized their JVM for the caffeinemarks benchmarks or not unethically. The old line there are lies, damn lies and benchmarks seems to hold water here. The only benchmarks that make sense are the ones that are similar to your application - Sunw has the best specweb numbers of anyone for a webserver but when you use someother benchmarks which take advantage of PERL they look crappy.

As to do i feel worse about Sun because of this - i dont think this is in the realm of Nestle watering down baby formula or Krups making gas chambers for the Nazis. Agreed this is in many ways a religious argument and in my view Sun has more innovation in its little finger than Microsoft does in the whole company. If it would truly makes you happy to see a great American company like Sun (Stanford University Network for a little history) which began as a university project embracing open standards taken down by a company which arguably hasnt invented anything yet wants to control the keys to everything, be prepared for Bill Gates not to ask you where do you want to go today but tell you - have you seen those $40 Internet Explorer Plus packs on sale - how much longer do you think the standard edition will be free once their competition is gone?
