This means that the Postal Service is required to send to the U. S. Treasury $5.5 billion each September 30.

Drop that requirement and its still losing money. It just lost $3.3bil in one quarter, and that's its busiest quarter (Q4, with all the holidays) where if its ever going to make any money it would make it then. I don't think that $3.3bil lost includes a pro-rated portion of the $5.5bil payment, but even if it does, and you back it out, its still almost a two billion dollar loss in its highest volume quarter.

Your grasping at straws.

USPS advertises a service every day that loses money. Most of what they deliver is junk mail.

Remove the federally protected monopoly and lets get this government out of the monkey biz bizness.
