Tom As I understand the technical standards, some of the 33k modems can be upgraded to the new X2 standards if they have the proper DSP chip and proper memory on the board. The "real" problem is the two competing manufacturers producing too many modems for the market to absorb. I don't know if this has or has not happened. There is no good information on this. I have seen stats to support both sides of this issue. IMHO this is "Not" a long term problem and the retail channels will clear this out very quickly. I am still very bullish on 3COM. Eric
