I'm fairly certain a Late 2012 "New iPhone" sans 4G will blow up the stock

JMO, but I think you are paying way to much attention to management hyperbole. I have always thought that Apple's management team has copied Jobs's speaking pattern and that includes using phrases like "mind blowing products" or "staggering demand". Superlatives are thrown around like candy in the Apple universe.

It is possible he was referring to something specific but it is equally likely that it was just random management speak.

I'm fairly confident a 4" screen isn't going to blow my mind.

What would?

I'm fairly confident that nothing will blow your mind. :-)
