Gary, yes it is painful, I am earning nothing on most of my cash (do have a couple of bank mm's, but that gets tedious). So, for excitement, I'm about to blow a chunk of it---- signing contract on an extravagant condo in NYC, views, etc, why not be nice to myself in my emeritus years. I might add, that I wouldn't suggest this approach for someone who has heirs who care. And buying RE in one of the few markets that is reasonably healthy is also not recommended by me. However, " If I am not for myself, then who will be for me, and if not now, then when?"
