For years I had various HP all in ones which I refilled using a kit sold at COSTCO ... was in the $15 range as I recall.

Couple of important things:

1) DO NOT let cartridge to be refilled go dry, if you do might as well toss it

2) Use a clear area with surface covered with 20-30 pages of newspaper

3) it will be very messy first couple of attempts

4) use QueTips and alcohol to clean both print surface and the contacts that connect printhead to printer

5) try not to overfill cartridge

6) after refilling, print several small colorwheel prints until all colors are correct

7) usually are able to refill a single cartridge 8-10 times

I no longer refill as I bought a Brother several years ago and, IMO, Brother is above comparison to the HPs, among other things I can buy new cartridges (it uses a BW and 3 color) very inexpensively and they last a very long time.

Luck

you can buy refilled cartridges on ebay for about the same money it takes to refill you own and save yourself all of the mess. In the last five years I've only had trouble with one refilled cart. Also, if you have a walgreens nearby, they will refill in one hour for about $10 as I remember.

I messed around with refilling cartridges once and never did it again. "Mess" is the operative word. I now buy off brand ink cartridges for my Brother printer at eBay for really cheap and they work great.
