No one wants to be labeled a bigot (well liberals anyway-lol) , and consequently few delve down into the heart of the right wing personality. Probably best left to the old folks anyway who fear less about making a faux pas or just having people angry with them IMO, the right wing does not understand political reality, and history, science, or logic very well (they don't practise it). They only see the liberals as privileged adverseries, and so don't really know what to do to combat liberal ideas which mostly follow science and logic but are anathema to their culture. Their lambasting liberals is a defense mechanism, especially the uneducted who resent the educated, and don't really understand them. Their wrath is not really aimed at anyone personally. They do not know how to defend their positions which are very real to them. So I can't really get angry with any of them. In 12 years I have only put about 8 people on ignore, and those are the ones who have no possibility of learning and are just dangerous hate machines. Most of these conservatives I would bet are pretty nice people who want to communicate, but the reality we liberals present to them can only be taken a tea spoon at a time as the ideas are so foreign to them and they would have to reorient their entire world of reality to accept what we say as true. I have many very conservative friends. Really good friends, who would do anything for me and still I find the transition has to be very slow. And we seldom discuss political ideology. I think when people are raised in a narrow reality like say the Mormons or Amish or Muslims, they imprint at an early age. To undo that imprinting and then learn a whole new reality e.g. liberalism, existentialism or Zen is a long hard process and few have the curiosity or time to persue it. My conservtive friends love me, and trust me, and know I am a liberal, and even respect my thinking, but they stay pretty much in their own philosphical world unable to imagine my world.
