I would eliminate all mortgage deductions. There is no reason to favor housing "investment", which is really consumption, over other productive investment. For most homeowners the mortgage deduction is hardly worth anything, since it is typically less than the standard deduction.

Aghhhh, I'm under the impression there is no 'mortgage interest deduction' on second homes only primary residences.
