Joe,
We've seen plenty of days when the futures are way above fair value. And some days below. So is what you are saying is that intervention is a strong possibility on huge +spread days? What is a "large (practically unlimited) limit price bid"?
What ideas do you have on days the futures open or close well below fair value? Sooner or later, don't you think major interventions to artificially drive the market might see it backfire and hurt a lot of investors?Sure, brokers and others support stock prices everyday, but if the media and the govt. are doing this in any big way...well that does make for a " horse (market) of a different color"!
