Sorry about your Dad. But wouldn't the preferable situation be to have two functioning loving parents? No brainer there, but my question/thesis is that a welfare check gets in the way of this. It gives the woman a cop out and the man too. We probably can explain some of the explosion in out of wedlock childbirth's to cultural influences, but it makes sense to me that a large part of it is due to the fac that if you don't like the situation you are in you can opt our and get a check and subsidized apartment if you are mom.
