Barry, I communicate by Internet Phone at times, and you would be really surprised to see how many countries are already represented in the phone chat rooms. Also, if a person has a video tied in to their computer, they can see each other as they communicate.

Now, there will probably always be areas of any country that will not have access to computer and internet technology. I'm sure there are large areas of Canada and the US that are not computer literate, but that doesn't negate the advances of the technology..

The driving force behind the advances in this area has always been business. Cheaper, faster methods of doing business and making money, thats the fuel that drives this machine...

I'm lucky to live in a city where 85% of the population is computer literate, just about every home has a computer. Why? Big Business, that's why. We have gigantic oil sands plants that are driven by computer technology, the latest in the field. They have made it easy for every employee to have access to computers, financing, training, etc.. They come out with a employee purchase plan every two or three years to enable their employees to keep up to date with the latest technology.

More companies are starting to realize the advantages to having a computer literate workforce. If the employee can't come to the office, the office will be able to go to him, via, internet teleconferencing, phone, etc...

Carol
