"Plastic is delivered free."

Then why pay to operate the recycling facility at all when he gets all of the plastic, delivered, for free??

That shredding cost is way too high. I miss read the source. That number included capex and operating costs.

greenenvirotech.com

The technology recovers 70% of shredder residue which leads to significant reduction of raw material purchases for plastic resin production, capital expenditures and operating costs $0.04 per lb. of shredder processed, landfill costs, and increased processing capacity.

Still looking for a better source.

I don't have a desire to engage in the "exercise." I was offering a discussion about what would/should go into the numbers. I don't believe the $10/bbl but I'll accept it, given the real number to be concerned with is the bottom line-- CoGS will resolve themselves in time.

My point was apparently missed-- if you assert a nebulous number and then use generous % corrections (i.e. "if I were 50% wrong") it's a non-value-added exercise IMHO

FTR Shredding the Plastic:
at .01/lb it adds $3.36 to the $/bbl (with conversion 8:1)
at .02/lb it adds $6.72 to the $/bbl (with conversion 8:1)

at .03/lb it breaks the $10/bbl at $10.08/bbl (with conversion 8:1)

Lets also set a few baseline assumptions for this discussion.

How about 3 machines running at 75% up time. You good with that?

Plastic is delivered free. All subsequent handling costs must be included in the cost /bbl.

What selling price do you want to use for the end product?

Oops. There's another reason your argument gets thrown out the window. You don't get to just assume plastic is free. Who says so? You aren't taking the word of a man who has been caught in dozens of lies and is facing fraud charges, are you?
