I prefer balanced budgets. Only one political party tries to achieve that goal. I wonder why.

I agree with alot of your posts, mel, but let's be honest. The GOP hasn't tried to balance the budget or reduce the deficit in any meaningful way since Bush Senior raised taxes. Since then the GOP has been lobotomized into believing that tax increases are never a good idea and that tax cuts even when they create massive deficits are a good idea. The GOP's refusal to even consider a tax hike is just as bad as the Dems refusal to cut expenditures in any meaningful way.

The best bipartisan effort we've had in the last 30 years was during the Clinton administration. We haven't had it good since then.
