Good Question. Just thinking out loud here...

I don't know much about McCain and his admin track record. (he doesn't have one) I prefer governors for President.

But with the filibuster, I'm sure the Obstructionist Dems would have been blocking his every attempt to do anything conservatives would support. Gridlock would continue to be a part of Washington.

I can envision less stimulus as he has a record of opposing taxcuts. But, he would be under pressure to extend the Bush taxcuts and he probably would have for a longer period than 2 years.

The spending budget is nearly on autopilot, so the spending would be large, but not at current levels. The Dems would fight tooth and nail against any spending cuts. SS and Medicare reform would be gridlocked.

The economy would probably have contracted a bit more in 2009 and recovered to somewhat lower levels than today. The deficits incurred would have been somewhat lower, but still problematic.

The uncertainty caused by Obamacare would not be a factor in the economy, but Europe's problems would be present and problematic. So, the economic outlook would be cloudy.

There would be more moderates and fewer liberals on the Supreme court.

GM would have gone through bankruptcy and emerged a smaller company with a different labor cost structure. GM would still be struggling. But, Ford would be stronger.

I would expect him to be more supportive of the Simpson-Boles proposal. But Congress wants no part of it.

He likes to play the middle and would probably make deals with the Dems that the Reps would be upset over. Probably a deal on Immigration and minor deals on healthcare (compared to ObamaCare).

I would expect him to try to govern to the center right... about like Clinton. Pissing off the Conservatives, but getting a few things done.

His chances for re-election would be poor... and Hillary and Palin would be duking it out right now.
