I believe the launching of relentless air strikes, would do much more than a land invasion, and inflict much more damage in a much shorter time.

If we didn't go in to score a KO in the first round .... we better stay home.

Shock and awe should have taught us a few important lessons. We paid a lot to learn them.
One round KOs are not possible in our current war plans. We are not willing to do what that would take.

The flaw in our incursions and land war tactics for the past 10 years has been not doing 3 things -

To Prevail In A New War Today ~ We Must Do ALL Of This -

1. Invade and destroy the enemy armed forces and political leadership

2. Hold the key terrain

3. Control the population

That is what we must do to win. We haven't done these things so we have nothing significant to show for 10 years of persistent conflict.

Attacking another country using the same failed tactics and strategies of whack-a-mole will be more insanity.

One more point on that. We don't have our father's army any more. We can't pretend we can wage successful wars with that which we do not have.

The last draftee was discharged Thanksgiving week of 1975.
We have not won a war, not even a little war since.

It is now fair to ask, are the all-volunteer US Armed Forces a concept failure?

If not, why do we now have many fewer uniformed personnel and many more hundreds of thousands of DOD civilians and other civilian security like DHS? The reason is we can't recruit enough to fill our real war needs with uniformed personnel.

I am not questioning the motivation and valor of our young men and women.
They that serve, serve willingly and bravely and do not question the leadership concepts.
But I do question all those new civilians, DOD leaders, and our current senior military leadership who apparently do not know how to win. Or if they do, can't find the moral imperative to state what we need to do.
