My late father always wondered why the US didn't have a Foreign Legion like the French did. I can tell why we don't have a French style foreign legion. The French version has been made up of as many as 70% + foreigners many of whom were misfits and criminals. Even former Nazi SS Troops. Some say even the French who join the foreign legion were/are mostly misfits. They lost their ass at Dien Bien Phu and many other battles. The Foreign Legion is just an Infantry unit, some would say shock troops. I can say they do not measure up to any equivalent US Army or USMC Infantry unit in training, in equipment, in fighting prowess. What the USA really needs is more Americans fighting for America.
