Whatever conservatism originally stood for, it has been perverted by the existing GOP. Its as meaningless a discussion as talking about communism and the Soviets. Not for one second did the Soviets practice communism as promoted by Marx. And not for one second are GOPers practicing true conservatism these days. Ask manalagi.
