And creationists are similarly sure in their bones that no amount of Darwinian shuffling and copying and selecting could ever arrive at (real) living things. They are wrong, but one can appreciate the discomfort that motivates their conviction. And the constant sneering pretense & whining we see so often at what we know now almost certainly of the changes so obviously have taken place on Earth & the emerging Tree of Life . Just become so elementary ideas now , reminds me of how many geologists were fiercely resisting the drifting continents theory which upon looking back even a century before found children looking at maps of the world & immediately saw the shape-pattern fit of South America into the African land masses , voila! Immediately, one thinks of the competence of the silk worm--or indeed any plant or animal in existence--whether they are building a nest or bringind down prey. Religious people will be the first to insist that these intricate creatures have no comprehension (no privilege of souls, as it were!)--but they cannot escape the obvious implications of gradualism. And gradual it was ! How do they always manage to miss this tiny detail ? That really is a great article .. This is the missing component of the linear set thinking mind which cannot conceive how vast the time frames are geologically (they pretend not to or can't ) Yet how fast the first early complex molecular joinings could & did emerge , atoms themselves are perfect information bearing units on the most elementary level . That we will find the key to understanding why such a Tree of Life will trace itself back to the roots of chemical genesis am absolutely sure . In the same way we will also come to understanding our still limited consciousness rising out of a complex of many coordinated components in the brain that are themselves unconscious , which is just an amazingly simple idea . What is most astounding to me that Darwin's observations of sweeping Evolution should really be an inspiration for even the most deeply religious mindset only lead further to appreciation for the true scope of all this grand "creation". Go ahead & insert your design for no one's stopping you from belief in the divine " Holy Father " template or gathering together for community , mutual support & cooperation . For after all these are things that have worked already in the template of human groupings for countless centuries dawning in nature far back to earliest primitive ancestors. Whatever gets them hugging & kissing ...but lets hope also theres all that true inspiration and joy that we see all children have when exploring the world from the beginning when naturally drawn to investigation of all creatures , phenomena with wonder & awe . They are our ancestors after all biologically and even kids get this , like what Carl Sagan had to say here “Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality.” meme
