Good idea, get familiar with it before you need it.

I've enjoyed shortwave since a kid, get familiar with the different stations and frequencies and especially what time of day. As you know, things are a lot different at night than during the day. Of course, a local disaster, you should still have a few stations on air with generators.

I never worried about WWIII with the Russians, I use to sleep comfortably living near 18 9Megaton warheads on 18 TitanII ICBMs. Always figured I wouldn't wake up in a first strike.
