My experience over a few years in Ottawa was that it was too hot or too cold - mostly too cold. When too hot, mosquitoes and black flies added to the fun. When too cold, death from hypothermia was imminent from any missteps outdoors. In summer air-conditioning was too cold. In winter it was too hot...

You sound EXACTLY like a typical Canuck.. LOL.My parents have the AC at 72(summer) and the heat at 78 (winter)... go figure eh ..

I have the cooling at 78 and only run it mostly off peak to draw out the humidity.. lots of ceiling fans,... heat is 64-68. We have heated floors in bathroom running on 220v cost about as much as an incandescent 100W bulb. depending on time of day.. and day of week (all programmed) Our basement area is almost perfect year round..(has sufficient natural light also large part of the day) if we could live there heat and cooling would be really minimized.. A nice long low sunk bungalow in the boonies would be cost effective... :o)

Our Thermostat is from the US and is only in F not C.. but we are temperature bilingual up here :O)

Black flies in the city ?? Mosquitoes sure.. but lose the standing water and get one of these..

Besides West Nile virus mosquitoes are vectors for malaria even up here it seems
