I will agree Zimmerman was caught unaware, but if he'd had time when he saw he was being approached, a gun in hand would have prevented an attack. Regardless of the law.

I know of people who have warded off trouble with a gun in hand and w/o having to fire on anyone. And if it comes down to it, it's still better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.
