So we means test social security, and we tax the wealthy more- closer to the rates that we have had in the past- and we close loopholes. Voila- you can rest easy, and we still have a government that can facilitate our society. And let's decriminalize drugs.

And I'm all for getting rid of pork that doesn't do much good- like farm subsidies. But I do not want to do things like close TB hospitals, or gut the education system.

But it is dishonest to say this train wreck was set in motion by the right.
It was set in motion by the criminally incompetent Bush administration, however that is classified

" But it is dishonest to say this train wreck was set in motion by the right."

No, it's not Steve. The right has been cutting taxes below what we spend since Reagan. They're DIRECTLY responsible for the deficit. They've continued with that Grover Norquist-inspired strategy for the last 30 years, whenever they had the wheel of government. People don't like taxes, and will easily be led to believe any snake-oil salesman who tells them they don't have to pay as much. Republicans have been working that for thirty years. George H.W. Bush lost his job because he stood up for fiscal sanity.

It's MUCH easier to cut taxes than raise them, OR reduce spending.

Grover Norquist:

"I'm not in favor of abolishing the government. I just want to shrink it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."

He should move to Somalia.
