Z, believe it or not, we already have a progressive tax system. That's exactly the reason why they're so vulnerable to fluctuations in the economy.

Sure, it's riddled with tax breaks and loopholes. I'm fine with getting rid of most of them. Only problem is that you'll never get rid of all of them. Plus this is one of the politicians' favorite tools for "encouraging" certain behaviors they believe in.

If you think the tax code isn't driving away the rich, you haven't been paying attention:

I don't know how much money you're making right now, but when your marginal income increases get taxed at a 50% rate (e.g. 39% federal, 11% state), even you will have to ask yourself where that money is going.

But don't take my word for it. Ask some of your friends making more than $250K/year. I guarantee you that most of them are taking advantage of every tax break imaginable, such as home mortgage, 401k, IRA, etc. Too bad you want to take most of those tax breaks away from them.

That's crap. That is total crap. If I can help it, I'd like to make over $250K someday. You really think that being taxed an additional $300 for every $10,000 I make over $250K is going to make me any less motivated? A hint: NO.

Z,

I don't speak for everyone here, but where I come from on raising taxes is where are the taxes going now?

Where did TARP, and the stimulus monies go? Even Obama was caught saying those "shovel ready" jobs weren't shovel ready.

They all went to wallstreet, the bankers, "investments" into democrat supporters' pockets, and local and state governments to fill their own pockets.

And you want me to give more to be passed out?

We're at record poverty, food stamps, welfare levels, piss poor schools, infrastructure IS falling apart.

I'll be damned of I give the current crop of embezzlers in power more of my money.

Z, at least look at where what is going on instead of feeling good about the rhetoric they are feeding you about if you would ONLY give a little bit more, everything would be alright.
