My recollection is that Palin's selection as VP kept McCain's candidacy from being a rout in '08.

Those of us who were paying attention were well aware of McCain pretense to be conservative. Many conservatives would not have voted for him but for Palin arriving on the scene.

She was a very real threat to Obama which is why the DNC, Obama and the MSM sent a boatload of people to Alaska to dig for dirt.

Was she the best VP candidate? I don't know. Obviously, some in the GOP (including McCain must have thought so.

As far as Cheney goes. I like and respect him. However, his opinion is irrelevant as to this discussion.

Yes, Pawlenty may be a viable candidate and he may be even more conservative than Romney. We had better hope so if he gets the nod.
