"Do you honestly believe that giving more power to the government is a good thing just because they (ostensibly) believe in the same things that you do?" Yep, to a point we haven't reached yet. I certainly don't believe a government should make me take off my shoes to get on a plane, like I'm some Muslim going in a house, and yet, they do. Back when there were 20 million people on this country, smog wasn't a word, and seat belts were administered to bad kids by irate fathers, I'd have said no. That was 300M people ago. Not much elbow room over the horizon anymore. Now, we need government to protect us from the powerful who would like to profit by polluting the air we breathe and who would like to hire 10 year olds for $2/hr so they can fire their fathers who are making $7.50. "Conservatives want to reduce the power the government has over our lives", which, of course, is why they pass transvaginal probe laws. Ah, the good old days of small government.
