Everyone is dependent on others. For the most part, this is a wonderful thing. Consider the communities of family, faith, even state and nation, that all work to enrich our lives (as well as, on occasion, make us miserable.)

Don't get me wrong. Poverty is a drag. My thinking is that many of us would be happier living within healthy, vibrant communities and would gladly give up many so-called freedoms to do so.

Money is not the secret to happiness. A necessary evil, perhaps. We remain ignorant of its workings at our own peril. But of all the things in the world to study, it ranks (in my book) as one of the more tedious. (Irony duly noted of posted this on an Investors website.)

Re metals, Just read,

They’ve found yet another shipwreck off the coast of Ireland. The SS Gairsoppa went down in 1941 by a German torpedo. It was laden with 1.4 million ounces of silver. The insured value at the time was 325’000 pounds and it was paid up properly. Assum- ing they can get to the wreck and bring the loot up, it has a current market value of around 38 million dollars. One can’t help but wonder what the current value would be if the ship had been carrying banknotes instead.
