Reagan also told Edwin Meese that signing that bill was the biggest mistake of his Presidency. It gave amnesty to a lot more illegals than he thought it would.

"You realize Reagan gave amnesty to over 3 million illegals" Reagan did not do it on his own it was an act passed by both housses of congress with bi=partisan support. At the time, I and many conservatives supported it on the theory we would enforce immigration laws and the problem would be solved. Instead our Government, as usual, failed to do its job and we have a huge mess. These days conservatives do not generally support amnesty, because we realize we were had by the government. Liberals are too dumb to understand what happened. lj
