I don't see this as a good thing. We Americans have 5% of the world's population consuming 25% of the world's resources. Now, you're hoping for an "America" in China?

I like the idea of raising people up. But, if we want a large chunk of the world to live like Americans, we need to get that number way below 7 billion.

I see that as the ideal, a reduced global population living a better life. An idea that goes against almost every major religion selling their snake-oil today.

"There is a huge market for Starbucks,..."

Employ a lot of 'muricans in China, do we?
Very good for the bottom line of the corps and the 1%, but it ain't much help for Iowa.
Caterpillar, maybe. Maybe we make and export the machines that make earthmovers.
Not that I have anything against profits, but they are already at record levels.

Ford? GM? Sweet, but this doesn't help Detroit.

General Motors has big plans for China. More dealers. More factories. And even strange-looking new models. It plans to open 600 dealerships in China this year and nearly double the number of cars it builds in China by 2016, with plans to introduce a new Cadillac each year for several years, according to GM executives.

American companies have had this dream of massive markets in China since Deng opened things up in the early 80s. It's pretty dubious. I've seen no sign that American businessmen understand China very well, except maybe Apple squeezing their supply chain and milking their cult and Sheldon Adelson serving the fleshpots. The Chinese know business, the overseas Chinese have been the entrepreneurial ethnic group of all of Asia since forever, and US corporate practice isn't a very good fit for Chinese crony capitalism.

Plus more profits for American Corps doesn't actually do much for US jobs in particular or the US economy in general.
