If someone whose views I trust reads the book and recommends it, then I'll take a look. Generally, a fairly serious skim, looking for the central argument, the best supporting evidence, and flaws in the argument.

But Murray descended into ideological drum beating some time back. So it's going to be a hard sell to get me to do the above.

The past does not predict the future. I would think you would give it a hearing first before making up your mind.
If a source has been shown to be unreliable in the past, it makes sense to discount the source. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, well, can't get fooled again.
