I agree, but the Repblican's do not say that. They think there are a few at the top we have to guard. It is the Randian philosophy of the few supporting the masses (which she called vermin). The average folks in the middle class can create just as many jobs. But we need a healthy middle class to do that. There is nothing special about Romney, Trump, Koch brothers and Steve Forbes is an idiot who inherited his fathers empire. Romney and Ryan want to increase taxes on the middle class to give more tax cuts to the very rich. That is wrong headed thinking.

And here is the basic fallacy of your thinking. You think that Republicans only care about the ultra rich. Republicans know that we are talking about anybody who creates jobs. This is why your rhetoric falls on deaf ears with the small business owners.

In other words, democrats have built up this giant strawman that they keep on knocking down....and it is meaningless.

They think there are a few at the top we have to guard.

You have a lack of understanding on this, probably because you just accept what others on the left tell you.
Republicans are often small business owners themselves - they are the people that have built things in this country by creating companies and hiring people.

Think about the composition of the political parties and who is in each - the Democratic party is dominated by public/government workers, unions, blacks, academic types and Hollywood and Manhattan elites.

The Republican Party is dominated by small business owners creating jobs and paying all the taxes that support the unemployed, union thugs, and bloated unproductive public/government payrolls.
