I was in the Army in the mid-50's when they were going though the downsizing from Korea. The brought back a lot of rank heavy EM and put them in West Coast Repo-Depos with money and leave time. They would get drunk and into trouble and get busted from E6 to E3. Deliberate. My Ordinance Company, out of 200 men, had about 10 blacks, all mechs. No fraternization in the unit at all. The Transportation units were still "four, four four transportation corps" Black outfits. The off base bars were totally segregated. 1955. I don't think you had a lot of sweetness and light in the 70s. Kept reading about Officers being afraid to go into the barracks alone.
