Drop the Racial Rhetoric
Obama should blow his own dog whistle and tell his partisans to desist.
By Deroy Murdock
August 27, 2012 4:00 A.M.

Congressman-for-Life Charles Rangel (D., N.Y.) recently waded into the enduring controversy over Vice President Joseph Biden’s August 14 remarks in Danville, Va. That’s when Biden notoriously used a southern accent to tell a largely black audience that, if elected, Mitt Romney is “going to put y’all back in chains.” Biden and his defenders claim that the Veep innocently referred to Republican aspirations to unshackle banks. Doing so, somehow, would slap manacles on all Americans — not just the black folks standing before Biden in the final capital of the Confederacy (black population: 48 percent).

“Was he [Biden] talking about slavery?” Rangel asked last Thursday on The Perez Notes radio show. “You bet your ass he was. Was he using the vernacular? Yes, he was. Did he think it was cute? Yes, he did. Was it something stupid to say? You bet your life it was stupid.”

Rangel now joins former Virginia governor Douglas Wilder as a prominent Democrat who has rejected Biden’s side of this still-simmering story. “Biden’s remarks brought race into the campaign and they were not necessary,” Wilder told CNN on August 17.

Biden’s comments were just a bizarre and crude effort to scare black people into voting Democrat, again. After all, if Biden is telling the truth, how would deregulating banks put Americans “back” in “chains?” Before the 2007–8 financial meltdown, banks did not hold Americans in chains. Au contraire. Fueled by the federal Community Reinvestment Act, loose money from the Federal Reserve Board, and the boisterous encouragement of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, many banks promiscuously approved mortgages — even for dodgy borrowers with little prospect of repaying their loans. So, come 2013, there would be no “chains” into which banks could put Americans “back,” even if a President Romney cremated the Dodd-Frank law in a giant bonfire on the National Mall.

While one may disagree with Romney, his running mate Paul Ryan, and every Republican on Capitol Hill, the notion that the GOP is itching to re-enslave blacks is an outrageous, disgusting lie that utterly mutilates American history. As most students learn in junior high school, abolitionists launched the Republican party to end slavery. Republicans defeated the Confederacy and then spent Reconstruction trying to incorporate blacks into American society. Democrats fought them at every turn.

Democrats opposed the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which bans slavery, and the 14th Amendment, which guarantees every American equal protection under law, regardless of race. Unwilling to limit their anti-black hate to Capitol Hill, Democrats founded the Ku Klux Klan as, in essence, the party’s militant wing. In the 1920s, Democrats defeated the GOP’s federal anti-lynching legislation. Led by West Virginia’s Robert Byrd — a one-time Exalted Cyclops in the KKK who recruited 150 new Klansmen — Senate Democrats filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Republicans broke that filibuster and moved that landmark legislation to President Lyndon Baines Johnson’s desk for signature.

President Ronald Reagan named General Colin Powell to be America’s first black national security adviser and authorized the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday.

After President George W. Bush appointed not one but two black secretaries of state (Powell and Condoleezza Rice), a freshly inaugurated President Obama and Senator Richard Durbin (D., Ill.) ended the Washington, D.C., school-voucher program. Thousands of young, black Washingtonians were relegated to lives of ignorance and poverty once Obama and Durbin had derailed this Underground Railroad out of the ghettoes of the nation’s capital.

Against this backdrop, Americans were startled to hear Touré, the mononymous co-host of MSNBC’s The Cycle, remark on August 16 that Romney was using “racial coding” to effect the “niggerization” of Obama. So, how does Touré contend that Romney “niggerized” Obama? According to Touré, Romney said that Obama is running an “angry” campaign. Romney and his supporters had chided Team Obama’s class-warfare rhetoric, criticized claims that Romney is a “felon” who has paid no taxes in a decade, and condemned a pro-Obama super-PAC commercial that blames Romney and Bain Capital for speeding the cancer death of the wife of a steel-mill employee.

“That really bothered me,” Touré said on live TV regarding a Romney campaign appearance. “You notice he said ‘anger’ twice.”

That’s right. What could be more “niggerizing” than uttering the word “anger” twice (!) in reference to Barack Obama?

After all, only black men get angry. (You should see the rage on my face right now.) “Anger” apparently is a “dog whistle” word that only whites can hear. How odd, then, that a black man like Touré deciphered this “racial code.” Perhaps Toure’s otherwise-Negroid eardrums can discern a few of the kilohertz that only Caucasians can perceive.

Romney’s super-high-pitched statement helped him telegraph this vital secret to white voters in swing states:

Barack Obama is black!

This shocking news surely will drive white bigots by the tens of millions into the loving arms of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

Meanwhile, the Left is trying to “honkify” the Romney-Ryan ticket. As columnist Victor Davis Hanson masterfully documented, leading liberals labor mightily to portray Romney and Ryan as Whitey McWhite & Son.

Actress Mia Farrow saw the first Romney-Ryan rally on TV and said, “Camera pans crowd: whole bunch of white people.”

State senator Louise Lucas (D., Va.), an Obama campaign “Truth Team” member, said on July 20 that Romney is “speaking to that fringe out there who do not want to see anybody other than a white person in a leadership position.” Lucas barked this just nine days after Romney used his speech to the NAACP’s national convention to ask black Americans for their votes.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.), who has a history of racial bomb throwing, warned that if Romney wins, “the day after the election, 17 angry old white men will wake up and realize they just bought the country.”

Whether or not these Leftists believe this nonsense, Americans are on edge, thanks to the stagnant economy and a host of other frustrations. Some unhinged individual may hear this idiotic drivel about lily-white Republicans using cryptic messages to re-enslave blacks. Who knows what such stupid lies might inspire some fanatic to do?

Gay-rights volunteer Floyd Lee Corkins allegedly opened fire at the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., on August 15. Police say he declared, “I don’t like your politics,” and then shot staff member Leo Johnson in the arm. While Johnson (who happens to be black) will recover fully, things might have been far worse had Corkins dropped the 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches that he carried as part of an apparent “social-conservative disguise,” and pumped FRC staffers full of the 50 bullets that he reportedly possessed.

On August 13, anti–Paul Ryan protesters interrupted his remarks and tried to rush the stage as the House Budget chairman addressed the Iowa state fair. Police say that one hooligan at the gathering “punched a volunteer.”

If this nastiness continues, something truly ugly could happen. The Right’s public discourse has its blemishes. But hatred, invective, and racial pot-stirring are light years more common and intense on the left.

Obama should blow his own dog whistle and tell his partisans to cease and desist. They should discuss today’s issues. Slavery is not among them.

Lest he disappoint Americans even further, the candidate who promised in 2008 to unite Americans should set an example by employing lively but non-inflammatory campaign rhetoric. President Obama then should insist that his supporters follow his lead.

"No Question The Country Is Worse Off Today"
By Bill O'Reilly
Posted on September 4, 2012

The Democrat Convention of 2012, that is the subject of this evening’s Talking Points Memo. First of all, I’ll be travelling to Charlotte on Thursday for the President’s big speech, but for tonight and tomorrow we’ll do what we did last week. We’ll have some Factor analysis and we’ll also bring you some of the speeches. As you may have heard, FOX News dominated the ratings of the Republican Convention in Tampa, beating every TV news operation in the country, and boy are they mad. Thank you all very much.

Now, down in North Carolina, the Democrats are really up against it this year. Their story is grim, and a new poll conducted for The Hill newspaper confirms that. The survey among likely voters asked, based solely on job performance, does President Obama deserve to be reelected?

54% say no, 40% yes, 6% not sure. When asked if the country is in better or worse condition overall than it was four years ago, 52% say worse, 31% say better, 15% percent about the same.

So, you can see the mood of the country is not with President Obama and the Democrat Party. Therefore, in order to defeat Mitt Romney and the Republicans, the Democrats are going to have to do some high stepping. The first thing they’ll do is to tell voters that they are absolutely better off than they were four years ago, they just don’t know it. The Obama team will also continue to blame all the bad stuff on former President Bush.

Vice President Joe Biden: America is better off today than they left us when they left. And if it weren’t so hot, I’d go into detail about why I say that, but let me just sum it up this way folks… You want to know whether we’re better off? I’ve got a little bumper sticker for you. Osama bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive.

Bill O’Reilly: Will that bumper sticker be enough? There’s no question that the country is worse off today, despite the Vice President’s rhetoric, than when President Obama took office. And if you’re speaking to somebody who disputes that, immediately terminate the conversation, because that person is irrational - a Kool-Aid drinker.

Take a look at this chart: When President Obama took office, unemployment was at 7.8%. After three and a half years, it stands at 8.3%. Median income when the President took over was about $55,000. Now, $51,000. Gasoline prices in January 2009 were $1.84 per gallon. Now, $3.82 per gallon. That’s painful to working folks and it’s largely ignored by the President. National debt of $10.6 Trillion when President Obama took the oath of office. It is now more than $16 Trillion - an astronomical and dangerous rise. Finally, the budget deficit in President Bush’s last year was $458 Billion. In 2011, under President Obama, it had risen to nearly $1.3 Trillion - again, a dangerous amount of money to have to borrow.

There’s no way the Democrats can spin those facts; they’re in stone. The country’s in trouble, no question about it. But there is a question about how to get out of that trouble. Many voters believe that President Obama has had enough time to improve things. That if a football coach inherits a team, and that team is worse three and a half years later, the coach is out of there, the coach gets fired. But Mr. Obama says, “wait a minute!” His situation is unique.

President Obama: Historically, after these big financial crises where a lot of people are dealing with debt or a collapse of a housing market, that creates bigger challenges. And we’re seeing this, not just in here the United States, but around the world. But, what I would say is that the steps that we’ve taken in saving the auto industry, in making sure that college is more affordable, in investing in clean energy and science and technology and research. Those are all the things we’re going to need to grow over the long term.

Bill O’Reilly: Now, there’s no use in debating President Obama’s opinion. He believes it, and so do his followers. All the charts in the world are not going to change their minds. So it is up to you, the voter, to decide whether Mitt Romney and the Republicans should get a chance to improve things, and therein lies the question mark. Talking Points has said from the beginning of this campaign that the vote will be a referendum on Barack Obama. It will be an up or down vote on him.

The Republican Party knows that, and therefore Governor Romney is going to play it very safe. He’s not going to be drawn into any policy controversy. He’s not going to make any bold and fresh statements. He’s simply going to say that President Obama has failed to bring prosperity to America, and that he, Mitt Romney, will be able to do that.

As for the President, he will say that Romney’s vision will not succeed. But, of course, the President doesn’t know that. It’s a hypothetical. I believe that if America continues its record spending, continues to borrow billions of dollars every day, the economy is going to get much worse, but I can’t prove that. It’s just what I believe. Many liberals don’t seem to care much about looming bankruptcy. They just want to provide social justice, and they don’t really care about the unintended consequences. For them fiscal responsibility is not a factor at all.

So throughout this Democrat Convention this week, you’re going to hear that the Republicans want to hurt the folks by taking away their rightful stuff, and you’ll also hear about how the president wants to help the poor and middle class. And he will tax the wealthy and business owners in order to give the folks more stuff. It’s really useless to debate those points over and over. The Republicans want competition and an open marketplace capitalism. The Democrats want government control of the economy and 'social justice'. You’re going to have to make the call.

Both Obama and Romney want power, and the way to get power is to tell voters that you’ll look out for them. So the rhetoric goes around and around and around and it doesn’t get us anywhere. Talking Points is a big performance guy. The President surely knows his administration has not been economically effective. In fact, he gave himself an “Incomplete” when asked to grade his overall performance. That may be generous, with every economic category down big. With the folks paying $2 per gallon more to gas up. With the nation owing $16 Trillion, “incomplete” seems to be a soft word.

America’s in trouble, and politicians in both parties better recognize it, and they’d better do something about it, or all of us will suffer big time in the years to come. We need unselfish leadership. Abraham Lincoln leadership. And we, we the people, need to recognize the truth: The B. S. has to walk.

Encounter with a Low-Info Voter
By Howard J. Warner
January 28, 2013

I was engaged in a conversation regarding the future of health care in America when a third person (W) gave her opinion that she was happy with ObamaCare since her son could now get insurance. In New York State the cooperatives will not begin until Oct 1, 2013 for those without any other options. However, her son does not live in New York, where the state has provided Healthy New York insurance to those who qualify. We then had a conversation which I will relate. It demonstrates the severe problem facing our country resulting from the poor educational system we have underwritten for generations:

I: Why do you like the federal system Obama helped create?

W: My brother could not believe that I voted for Obama. He is a conservative Republican living in California. I am a registered Republican but we needed to do something for those without insurance. After all, Obama cares. What do you expect, I am a social worker and I care and must be liberal.

I: Do you mean that the Republicans don't care?

W: Well I don't know. They supported those greedy people in the health industry.

I: do you think it is greedy to ask for a raise?

W: What?

I: Did you ever get a raise at work?

W: I am not working anymore, since the summer.

I: Do you think it is fair to get a raise?

W: Yes, I deserved a raise when I worked. I was not greedy.

I: Do you think that the hospitals, doctors, nurses and other personnel working in health care are greedy if they get a raise? Do I deserve a raise?

W: Yes, I would say so. But the insurance companies are greedy.

I: When you get a raise, who pays for it?

W: What? I don't know. My boss, I guess.

I: Who is that?

W: My boss.

I: Who did you work for?

W: I worked for the County at the nursing home and before that for a private nursing home.

I: Who do you think paid for your raise?

W: The County.

I: Where do you think they get the money for your raise?

W: I don't know.

I: The taxpayers. That's why the taxes on your home increase. It is why older retired people on fixed incomes can't afford their house and lose it.

W: Oh. But the insurance companies are greedy.

I: Do you think that your insurance is good?

W: I have private insurance and Medicare. I like it but it cost too much and keeps going up.

I: Why do you think that is?

W: Greed on the part of the insurance industry.

I: I know that some people are greedy and make too much, but do you think you should use your insurance when you need it?

W: Yes, that is why I pay for it.

I: Do you think you should be limited from using it too much?

W: No, because it is for those who need it.

I: When you use the insurance more, that increases the utilization rates and increases the cost. The insurance company raises the premium to cover the cost and make a profit. The executives may be paid too much, but then the workers answering the phones are often paid too little. Who should give up their salary? Better, yet, should we bankrupt the insurance company because they charge us more than we want to pay?

W: No, I like my insurance. But the Medicare goes up too much. The Republicans want to cut Medicare.

I: ObamaCare has cuts to Medicare. The cost of health care in America is subsidized by the private insurance and private pay patients since Medicaid and Medicare do not pay the full cost of our system. In addition, many uninsured patients receive care without any payment.

W: Really. You can't get care without insurance.

I: In America you cannot be denied necessary care if you go to an emergency room at the hospital. Accreditation requires that these people get care. The ERs are loaded with people without coverage.

W: Really. I did not know.

I: When you use the medical insurance more, then the cost increases and that means higher premiums. When you do not pay the cost up front, then the utilization rates increase faster, speeding up the insurance premium increases. Insurance companies may not be great, but they pass on the higher costs that we helped create. Add to that the cost of modern high tech medicine and the premiums get higher. Do you want newer technologies?

W: Yes.

I: I guess then you must pay for it. Otherwise, you will have to deny care to people because they are too old or too sick to get better. Obama Care was designed to get us to a single payer system within 10-20 years by destroying the private insurance system which helps pay for Medicare and Medicaid. Eventually we will have a form of Medicaid for everyone.

W: I won't have Medicaid, I have Medicare.

I: Medicare runs a deficit every year, so at some point we won't be able to afford it. When the private insurance system declines, the cost of Medicaid and Medicare will be unaffordable and will not be able to sustain the present health care system. Then your care must be impacted. The government will eventually only be able to afford a form of Medicaid as the costs escalate. Otherwise, they will have to limit Medicare severely. Either way, we will get less care for more money. You will have to wait longer in the waiting room as more people seek care. It takes 10 -15 years to train a physician. We will see more nurses or nurse-practitioners as they cost less to train and are reimbursed at lower rates by insurance companies.

W: Oh.

I: But then I apologize for lecturing to you.

It takes four years of college to train a social worker. A Master's Degree requires another two years. Clearly, most social workers are liberal and have no clue how our health care system is financed. The same can be said of many of our political leaders. They view business people as greedy and uninterested in the public. Of course tax increases are not seen as hurtful to the public by the political left. This is not a rare viewpoint. Equal care may be terrible, but it is fair.

Our high schools have fostered the view that the business sector has little value. They teach that the "robber barons" were finally countered by the brave union workers. It is little wonder that this conversation occurred and that Obama was re-elected. It is time to change our education system and teach honest social studies to young minds. By the time they get to college, it is hopeless. A recently retired and now happy dentist told me that we are part of a noble profession. I wonder whether I will be able to say the same when I retire?
