My bro in law is a programmer and works for a software company in Boston's northern suburbs. I'll ask my sister how long his commute is.
...and then you can add another 1 hr to get from northern suburbs to Cambridge or Boston in rush hour. Trust me, I did it: 95 circular to Cambridge/Boston in rush hour == 1 hr drive. :) I have to go 5 miles from my place to work on 95 circular. Sometimes takes half hour even at 10am or 7-7:30pm. Another friend of mine commutes Peabody to Burlington == 16 miles on 95. Sometimes takes 1hr-1.5hr in rush hour...

Manchester, NH is ~40 miles from 95 circular, so even in best case with no traffic you have ~40 minute drive to 95 circular. Add another 10 miles to get to Boston/Cambridge.

It is commutable, but only in zero traffic. :)

Most high tech people who live in NH and work in MA don't commute. They work from home and show up in office once in a week or so. :) And even when they do go to office, they usually don't go during rush hour. But then you have to go before 7am or after 10am (sometimes it clears earlier, but don't count on it) and return before 3:30pm or after 7-7:30pm.

If you don't have such flexibility, the commute is hell IMO. :)
