It seems to me that there are several ways to increase profits on a merger situation.....one is through arbitrage ( which is what I hope to learn more about from this thread) and the other is simply to figure out which side of the transaction offers the best return on my money and buy those shares and hold them until the merger is finalized.

I think I can do the numbers crunching on the latter, but want to learn the intricacies of arbitrage because I believe that the global marketplace will offer me numerous opportunities to do arb plays for the rest of my life!

Thank you for your response and hoping I won't be a burden with all the questions I might have!
