Duane-
This is getting fun, if a bit far afield. To bring it back, I'll begin with the note that James Glassman, a financial journalist of note who writes for the Washington Post, had an article that mentioned LSI in Sunday's (tomorrow's) Post (should be available tomorrow at www.washingtonpost.com). Glassman cited John Dessauer's newsletter which said, "Our strategy with any great company- LSI included- is to buy when Wall Street is down on the group, the company, or the future in general. Dessauer also opined that LSI was not a quick trade, and either Dessauer, Glassman (or both) considered it a five-year holding. There was also speculation that LSI could return to the $40 level if profits return to where they were a couple of years ago.

No, I don't know your brother, but I'll look him up if he's in the D.C. area. Still, small world, ain't it? I try- not always successfully- to be circumspect on SI, since one never knows where one's comments might end up. But yes, I am the same Larry who had the witless battle recently with Jerry String on the HMTT thread. He "dissed" me on a day when my humor wasn't the best anyway, so I made my long-held opinion of him abundantly clear. I like your idea of having as part of SI ethics the commitment to not email people who have expressed the desire not to communicate with you. This is timely for me, since the lowlife String did send me one idiotic email htat was mercifully short. I will post him tonight putting myself on record as asking him not to post to me on SI or send me email again.

I do not agree with your idea that all legal speech should be permitted on SI. Ayn Rand's magnus opus, Atlas Shrugged, had an excellent line which a minor character intoned to the heroine (think I got that right). The line was essentially, "We here at Galt's Gulch, do not have any laws, but we do have certain customs." I don't belive that vulgar speech should be illegal, but I would support SI's banning it from this site.

P.S. Yes, I would be willing to be part of a consultative group of users who try to keep SI discourse within civil limits. Please email me if you wish to pursue this.
