600 meters and 660 yards are very close to the same distance. 600 meters = 656.168 yards, says my good friend google.

Not sure what Wharfie's time was, but pretty sure he's older than me, and they were still doing yards and miles when I was in high school.

660 yards. I had a teammate running about 1:25. We were B Class. A's ran 880; winning time in the state meet that year was 1:52.2. They prolly did the first 660 in about 1.22, so I was pretty slow.

Some guy named Tommy Smith from Lemoore was 4th in the 440.
