There are many ways to reduce support for radical terrorists that have nothing to do with enriching the populations who support them (although increased standards of living would probably help). You did, however, make an excellent point, and one that I generally agree with, when you wrote; "The best thing we could do is shun them. Leave them to find their own way out of the mess they have created ." I've long posted that the best cure for people who think they want to be ruled by radical, Islamic fundamentalists is to let them be ruled by radical, Islamic fundamentalists. If they are, it won't be long before the next generation takes a long, hard look at something else. That was happening in Iran before Bush/Cheney called them an Axis of evil and started hanging Iraqi kids off power wires with our rockets. At one time their oncoming generation was the most pro-western in the middle east and the one least enamored with the idea of religiously based rule but our meddling in the region created tremendous resentment and a nationalistic fervor that undid all that. So I agree that we should let them find their own way but I'd also say that we should never miss an opportunity to lend them a humanitarian hand or give them a hand of applause when they need it and deserve it. I'd like to see our soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors there during national emergencies helping real people with real problems, not there with weapons and full body armor to enforce our uninformed views regarding which side of an internal dispute should prevail and which should not.
