Practice is different. for instance, I had a police lieutenant (personal friend of mine) tell me many years ago that the reason they had planted evidence to get drug convictions is "Because they knew they had done something."

Now this is done less frequently in middle class neighborhoods. And in upper class neighborhoods you can just get the charges thrown out if you have any clout.

We have 3x the Canadian crime rate, is part of it. The other is a long established tradition of police corruption in america. Didn't you folks see the Rodney King tape up there?

BTW I worked for a private detective firm to help pay for college. And have had police friends. I grew up in both very poor and very well to do neighborhoods. And have been an ACLU member for quite a while. So I have some insight into how police enforcement works for the different classes here in the US.

We can only dream of having a benevolent force like the RCMP at work.
