Kirch submitted it's plan to the European Commission..................sharon.kirchgruppe.de KirchGroup and CLT-UFA sign digital-TV agreement/ Germany receives Europe's only open digital-TV platform <Picture> Munich, November 8, 1997. KirchGroup and the CLT-UFA are to fuse the Premiere TV channel, the DF1 programs and their other pay-TV activities into a single group under a common management board. Written agreements on this are nearing conclusion. Dr. Leo Kirch, owner of the KirchGroup, and Dr. Michael Dornemann, member of the board of management of Bertelsmann AG, Entertainment Division, signed on 7th November the final agreements for the foundation of a Premiere group as a platform for developing Germany's digital television. It is planned to integrate all the pay-TV activities of CLT-UFA and the KirchGroup into this joint corporation. The undertaking is subject to approval by the European Commission and the German media authorities. Now that the agreements have been signed they will be forwarded without delay to these bodies. This will then pave the way for the appropriate authorities to examine the entire set of agreements. "Conditions have been created that will accelerate the opening-up of this market", said Leo Kirch at the signing. "This is a great step towards establishing the digital infrastructure in Germany. This uniquely open platform here in Germany will generate a variety of services and programmes from a huge range of providers. The d-box technology will give everyone access to these entertainment and service offerings."
